Lecture traces IMF's unprecedented financing program for Ukraine
On Feb. 6, the Program in Contemporary European Politics hosted “The IMF Program That Saves Ukraine" with Vladyslav Rashkovan, alternate executive director at the International Monetary Fund.
In his talk, Rashkovan focused on the IMF's support for Ukraine in recent years, particularly in the period following Russia's full-scale invasion in 2022. In response to economic shock, the IMF approved the first-ever UCT-type program for a country in active conflict, introducing the concept of "exceptionally high uncertainty" to reflect the reality of wartime conditions. The IMF fulfilled its role as a catalyst for international aid to Ukraine, positioning its program at the center of a financial safety net provided by partners.
Rashkovan is a member of the IMF executive board, representing Ukraine and 15 other European countries, and is one of architects of this support model.
